Bio - Who is Starchild?:
Amir Abd el-Fattah is Starchild, The Lion of The Desert and The Mighty Star of Africa. The son of an Egyptian immigrant entrepreneur and an African-American human/civil rights activist and journalist, Starchild is the product of a multi-cultural, politically charged environment, having spent most of his life growing up within the immigrant communities of Arabs, Ethiopians, Somalians, and various other communities of Africans, Middle Easterners, South Asians, and Central and South Americans within the Washington D.C./Northern Virginia Metropolitan area.
This, combined with his time spent as a child in the hometown of his father, Egypt's Port Said near Cairo, has shaped Starchild into an artist who can vivdly describe and depict the struggle and plight of America's immigrant and minority communities, the struggle of Africans and the African international diaspora, as well as display, through wicked braggadocio, his revolutionary skills on the microphone through rap, singing, and other forms of musical and literary art. His endless variety of rap patterns and flows, his amazingly poetic and articulate use of the English langauge, and a seemingly infinite vocabulary, as well as his clever use of metaphors and similes, make Starchild an artist with incredible musical prowess, especially when coupled with his singing ability and production style. Starchild uses his masterful lyricism, not only to raise awareness of these social problems and situations, but also for the shear satisfaction of displaying just why he, and many others believe he is the best rapper and lyricist in the world today.
Africa Must Unite!!!
It's incredible isn't it? When you really think about it... When you really think about Africa, it's absolutely amazing. It is beyond my understanding and most other's understanding as well, why Africa is in the state that it's in. It's easy to look at Africa and pick it apart by pointing out all of it's flaws. The AIDS epidemic and other rampant diseases, the never-ending and abundant amount of wars and political turmoil and struggles taking place, and famine...It's heartbreaking, watching my people go through this every day of their lives. If I had money or influence I'd do something about it, but all I can do is "play with the cards I have been dealt".
So I talk. I talk my ass off. I talk, and rap, and sing, and preach and write until there is no breath in my lungs and no feeling in my writing hand. There comes a time in everyones life when they decide exactly what they stand for, because they realize that if they haven't found something to stand for then they haven't found anything to live for. I'm no Haile Selassie or Nelson Mandela, but I think that's the whole point. Just because I'm a nobody doesn't mean I can't help somebody.
So my message? My big, huge solution that can end all war and poverty and maybe even disease throughout Africa? It's simple to say, but not so easy to do, and it's even a little repetitive and redundant. But it remains the truth, and it remains the only soulution.
UNITE!!!!
In the name of whichever god you believe in, UNITE!, In the name of whatever country you hold allegience to, UNITE!, In the name of everything just, righteous and holy in this world, UNITE!
Easier said than done right? Of course...but what isn't?
1. Do away with racism. Pride is wonderful, but Haile Selessie I said it himself, until we do away with the idea that the things that make us unique, make us superior, evil will continue to prevail. Africa has THOUSANDS of different races and cultures. We're all black, but we all look different, do different things, and speak different languages. We must respect and even learn to admire one another.
2. Love yourself, love being black, and love being African. Curly hair, course hair, straight hair, light skin, brown skin, black skin, thick lips, thin lips...Africa has it all, love yourself and love others, because when the West looks to Africa, all they see is Black People, they don't differentiate, and while we should love the things that make our tribes and races physically unique, we should always rememeber that we are all African.
3. A good heart and a good outlook is better than a sharp tongue and a charismatic smile. Africa needs leaders. We elect those who are handsome, those who look like the majority, those who share religious or racial backgrounds, but this is rediculous and insufficient. A pure soul is what we need. A diamond in the rough. Forget all physical and material things and elect those who are brave, righteous, and have the right outlook toward the future of their country, and Africa as a whole.
4. Stop letting foreign interests rape and pilage our lands of all of it's natural resources and then profit off of them. This must end. It is a large part of what is going on in Africa today. Foreign interests instigate wars between rival tribes, clans, and countries, use corrupt political puppet-leaders to force the masses into slavery to uncover valueable natural resources, and basically siphon Africa for everthing it's worth, while the people suffer.
5. We must not be afraid of progress. This is a sensitive issue because many African cultures consist of keeping with old traditions to the point where many would say that technologically progressing is almost a form of blasphemy, but there are ways to have modern medicine and the utilities needed to survive in this new world we live in without throwing away old practices, because if we all die off from disease and famine, there won't be anyone left to practice any traditions, old or new.
I don't claim to have answers. I don't claim to have solutions. All I know, is that there is definately a problem. I just want what most people want. Peace. I'm tired of the death and deprivation that plagues this world. Africa is just one place that is suffering. But if we can save Africa, then we can save it all, and god willing, we will. If you have answers, and even if you don't and you just want a say in what's going on, don't be afraid to speak up, because there are millions suffering because of people's reluctance to say anything. It's time to speak up, it's time to get free, and it's been time to UNITE!!!
"The WORLD is my country. To do GOOD is my religion."
i love your obvious passion and message for our ppl. we are ALL AFRICAN. and uniting as africans is our only hope for change and improvement of our circumstances. thanks for giving us something to think about.
